La Cucina Sabina offers a six day culinary and cultural program which combines food, culture, fun and friendships into an experience of a lifetime! Transfers are provided to and from Rome Airports and the main train stations to our villa in Sabina, minutes from Rome, in the rolling hills of the countryside. Meals, including wine, are provided during your stay as well as culinary and cultural excursions. Cooking will focus on authentic Italian cuisine, including regional recipes using only the freshest, seasonal and authentic farm-to-table ingredients. Lessons will include antipasto (appetizers), pastas, vegetarian dishes, meat and seafood dishes, cooking pizza on an outdoor oven, dolci (desserts) and gelato, etc. Lessons can be customized depending on the group. The villa is near a local train that runs directly into Rome throughout the day.

 

 

SUNDAY

Arrival after an airport or train station pickup.  Enjoy a light welcome lunch or brunch followed by relaxation around the villa, gardens, pool, etc. An evening welcome dinner is provided so that guests may get acquainted and learn about the exciting week ahead.

MONDAY

Begin each morning with a relaxed buffet breakfast under one of the covered verandas or outdoor terraces overlooking the olive trees and countryside with mountain views or in our dining room.
 
Normally we serve a buffet style breakfast between 8:00 and 9:30. The first cooking lesson begins mid-morning with Chef Barbara. You will begin your cooking lesson learning how to prepare some of the best of Italian regional cuisine. Because we are hands-on, you get to prepare your lunch and several other meals you will enjoy.

Late afternoon we head to the castle of Palombara Sabina, a medieval town near the villa, for a private tour and sunset reception overlooking the Sabine hills and valley. This is a rare opportunity to visit the castle and museum which is not normally open to the public and experience the same stunning views of Sabina that Margaret Thatcher and her husband saw on their many visits to their "secret getaway". Dinner is a few steps down the cobblestone ancient path to the 600 year old Antique Restaurant.

TUESDAY

After breakfast, we visit the ancient hilltop town of Tivoli for a guided tour of the beautiful gardens of Villa d'Este, where you will be amazed at the ancient villa, gardens and fountains. Along the way, we will visit the morning farmers market as the locals do. After lunch at a historic restaurant in Tivoli, we return to La Cucina Sabina for your afternoon lesson followed by dinner on the sunset terrace overlooking the olive groves and Monte Serrate. (weather permitting)

WEDNESDAY

Late morning depart for “Discover The Secrets of Ancient Rome” tour. In a special, guided tour of the city, we visit places not normally seen by tourists, making your visit very special and unique. Experience the Rome that the ancients and locals know, with a rare combination of art, food, culture and history in a very full day experiencing "la dolce vita”. Both lunch and dinner will be enjoyed in Rome. Dinner is at a private luxurious rooftop apartment in the historic center of Rome overlooking the ancient skyline and a magical sunset.

THURSDAY

After a very full day of touring Wednesday, we will enjoy a more leisurely day and so begin with a drive toward Umbria for a winery visit and a tasting followed by lunch with the winery owners overlooking their beautiful estate. To complement the winery, we will visit a thermal spa in the region for a little pampering Italian style. Access to spa, including thermal baths, pools, dry and wet saunas, robes, slippers, etc. is included. Any additional therapy sessions and wines are your responsibility. In the evening, we have our pizza party dinner at the villa! (Depending on the season, a pizza lesson at the villa will be substituted for spa visit)

FRIDAY

Depart late morning for a visit to a local artisanal cheese dairy for a tour and tasting followed by a visit to an ancient Roman olive grove and mill. Learn what the Romans knew about growing olives 2000 years ago. Back at the villa, we will have a tasting of olive oils and come to understand not just how they are made but what makes an olive oil great. After some R & R, we begin our fourth lesson with Chef Barbara. We will use all our skills learned during the week for our big graduation dinner, cooking everything from antipasto to dolce!

SATURDAY

After a light breakfast and goodbyes, transfers are provided to Rome's airports or train stations for return trips or extended travel in Italy.

 

During your stay, we are happy to make available one of Rome’s fine tailors to make you custom clothing that’s both stylish and great fitting.

Massage therapy by a professional masseuse is also available on premises by appointment. (fees are dependent on services)

The above itinerary may be adjusted slightly based on seasonal availability and specific specialty program offered as well as weather.
